HATE SPEECH

It's not “just words.”
It divides communities, spreads fear, and too often becomes the spark that leads to real harm.

As Governor of Colorado, making our state safer and
more united would be a Day One priority. That’s why I would push immediately for clear, narrowly defined laws that make engaging in hate speech illegal—while respecting constitutional boundaries and protecting legitimate debate.

Free speech matters.

But freedom does not include the right to dehumanize, intimidate, or target people because of who they are.

We already limit speech when it causes real harm—threats, harassment, fraud. Hate speech belongs in that same category.
Colorado should lead by example:

• Protecting dignity and public safety

• Defending strong, civil debate

• Drawing a firm line against dehumanization

A strong Colorado is built on respect, responsibility, and equal protection for all. On Day One, that is the standard I will set.
